Mariel Bosserman (ARNP) is a nurse practitioner with over nine years of experience. With great enthusiasm, she joined Humboldt Counseling Connection (HCC) in June of 2024. Prior to joining HCC, she was a dedicated member of the Center for New Growth since its establishment in 2022. She possesses a robust educational background, having earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Miami, followed by a Masters of Science in Nursing from the Nicole Wertheim College at Florida International University. Committed to expanding her expertise, Mariel has focused her continuing education on the crucial field of mental health care. She completed specialized training at the Polaris Insight Center for Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy and is currently in pursuit of her post-masters certification as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner.

Mariel's nursing journey began at the Cleveland Clinic Florida Hospital in Miami, where she also completed her clinical rotations for her nurse practitioner program. Subsequently, she embarked on a transformative path as a travel nurse, journeying up the picturesque coast of California in search of her ultimate professional destination.

In 2017, Mariel assumed the role of a nurse practitioner at Mad River Community Hospital, followed by a tenure at North Country Clinic. It was during her time in Humboldt that Mariel discovered her true passion for mental health care. She recognized that while many available treatments offer benefits, they often concentrate on symptom management rather than addressing the root causes.

Mariel's dedication lies in helping individuals overcome trauma and years of suffering by fostering a deep connection with their core selves. Her approach is holistic, placing the therapeutic relationship at the heart of her care. She values her ability to listen deeply and form treatment plans based on what her clients are truly wanting for themselves. In addition to her expertise in ketamine services, Mariel offers comprehensive medication management. Her services encompass initiating new therapies and, when appropriate, assisting clients in discontinuing, tapering, or transitioning medications to explore alternative options.

Furthermore, Mariel has a profound interest in the therapeutic application of consciousness-expanding substances. In the words of Harvard-trained psychologist, Ralph Metzner, PhD, "Psychedelic or consciousness-expanding drugs are the natural antidote to the consciousness-contracting conditions involved in addictions, compulsions, obsessions." Sometimes, symptom focused approaches do not provide relief. Clients may find themselves feeling numb, disconnected, or simply wanting more for themselves. Treatment with ketamine assisted psychotherapy can help accelerate the healing process, allowing us to move through barriers and blocks that can feel insurmountable before beginning treatment.

Having personally navigated the mental health system since she was 19, Mariel understands the complexities and nuances from both sides of the spectrum. Her own encounters have instilled in her a profound appreciation for the importance of compassionate and comprehensive care. She is acutely aware of the hurdles individuals often encounter when seeking help, as well as the transformative potential of holistic mental health approaches.

This intimate understanding, born from her own journey, serves as a guiding light in her practice. It fuels her commitment to provide not only effective treatments but also a supportive, empathetic environment where clients can embark on their own paths to mental well-being.
